LIVING CULTURES
The Wanapum Heritage Center includes a Wanapum Living Culture Program. This program is made to maintain the way of life, language and traditional physical culture of the Wanapum. In 2000, this program made a large tule mat house that measured 70 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 16 feet tall. The house was covered with the tule mats made from native materials. The Wanapum made the large tule house by hand. Other tule mat houses have been constructed since 2000.

The ancient technique of making hemp cordage is a recent activity of the program.
The Wanapum are skilled in making stone tools like arrowheads, and traditional fish nets. In 2005, the Wanapum built two canoes. The Wanapum elders are teaching their native language to the young Wanapum through a language program.
